Note: there are three segments of Road 39, and THEY DO NOT CONNECT. Please make sure you are on Hwy 184 first!
(formerly 38890 Hwy 184, Mancos, CO 81328)
NOTE: Error with Mapquest and others – it gets it WAY WRONG. Google gets it right - see below.
Since more of you are using GPS, here are correct coordinates:
37.381701, -108.334588 (driveway)
37.378504, -108.337802 (house - 1/3 mile off highway)
(N37o 22' 53.4" W108o 20' 04.5" house). The 11555 address will lead you astray in GPS.
Above all, get on Hwy 184 between Mancos and Dolores FIRST. From Mancos, turn north at the one stoplight in Mancos onto CO 184 toward Dolores (a right turn if you’ve come from Durango or a left turn from Cortez on US 160). If coming from Dolores, take State Hwy 184 south-east toward Mancos (left turn at top of hill outside of Dolores).
Once on 184, look for CR 39 (on the south side of the highway). It's about 4 miles from Mancos and 16 miles from Dolores. Turn south at Road 39 onto the extra wide drive with the western style log pole gate and metal bear on the pole. Look for the Sundance Bear sign on the gate on the south side of the road.
Once on Road 39, follow the signs to the right, to the top of the hill. We have neighbors on the lower part of the driveway (marked PRIVATE). Make sure you continue to the TOP of the hill - you'll see the log cabin and the main lodge (a large green house). Check in upstairs at the main lodge.
Restaurants: if you're arriving about dinner time, dining is available at the Millwood Junction, Chivolos and Olios in Mancos, Kennebec Cafe in Hesperus, Main Street Brewery and Nero's in Cortez - plus many fine restaurants in Durango. Plenty of restaurant/microbrew combinations too. We provide directory listings in your room.
Please go slow on our gravel driveway -- kids, dogs, horses, deer, neighbors have right-of-way and there are blind curves.
Located 30 miles west of Durango, we are about 1 1/2 hours from Telluride, 4-5 hours driving time from Albuquerque and 7-8 from Denver or Phoenix. We know several different routes and will be happy to share the details. Other driving times:
Flagstaff 5 hours
Grand Canyon 7 hours
Moab 2 hours
Grand Junction 4 hours
Local airports are available in Cortez and Durango, Colorado and Farmington, New Mexico with Durango having the most flights. Airports are 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours drive from the lodge and rental cars are available at all three. Connections are through Denver or Phoenix.
That last leg can be expensive. If you have more time, we use the Albuquerque airport (5 hour drive) -- but add some siteseeing on the way with a visit to Santa Fe, Taos or Acoma or Canyon de Chelly before coming to Colorado.
